<span style="font-size: large;">We made this awesome Lego table for this kids this year and it turned out way too great not to share. We found the idea here <a href="http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/built-for-building-1027109/">Family Fun Magazine</a>. It wasn't cheap but it was totally worth it. Our Legos are always organized, I hardly ever find them in the path of the vacuum and the kids love creating masterpieces on top of it.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Homemade Dishwasher Detergent</b></span></div>
<br />
I know there are a million posts on this on the web, but just in case you are following me here, I thought I would add mine. We are on well water and I am pretty stubborn about what goes in our water. Plus, I am trying to cut the "fat" from our budget so I made our own "detergent" when ours ran out. You can use citric acid in place of the Kool Aid, but it is more expensive and this way works just great. Make sure you completely rinse your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.<br />
<br />
What you need:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-od-5yfuxtVA/T0xUmuIqXoI/AAAAAAAAATs/MiIW1MdTL_o/s1600/IMG_0369.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-od-5yfuxtVA/T0xUmuIqXoI/AAAAAAAAATs/MiIW1MdTL_o/s320/IMG_0369.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<ul>
<li>1 cup borax</li>
<li>1 cup washing soda</li>
<li>2 envelopes lemonade Kool Aid (not sugar free)</li>
<li>1/2 cup salt</li>
<li>10 or so drops of essential oil if you want a fragrance </li>
<li> empty container</li>
</ul>
Fill the container, give it a shake and add 1/2T to each cup in your dishwasher.<br />
<br />
I also filled our rinse aid bottle with white vinegar and it works like a charm.<br />
<br />
The breakdown became...drumroll please... $1.43 per batch. NICE!!!Heidihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06483190015005834630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641880640065586505.post-22732786610396046152012-02-26T10:36:00.001-07:002012-02-26T10:39:36.207-07:00Pine Wood Derby Day<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Pine Wood Derby Day!</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Yesterday was the long awaited pine wood derby day here in Bozeman. All the boys in my den had been working hard on their cars, my little man especially, so I thought I would share a little of the day. He and his dad designed, sanded and painted for weeks. The Destroyer did not exactly destroy but it was sure cute to watch and they all had a great time!<br />

<br />
I have a blank wall left in Birdie's new room that has been driving me crazy. I decided to make a fabric pennant banner for the wall using leftover fabric that I had used in her room decor.<br />
<br />
I didn't use a tutorial but wanted to have one for you so I searched and found a great one for you at <a href="http://www.yourhomebasedmom.com/fabric-pendant-banner-tutorial/">Your Home Based Mom</a>, thanks Leigh Anne.<br />
<br />
I cannot wait to make one with lots of different fabrics but this one is just going to be some leftover coordinating fabrics from her curtains and quilt with some great applique. <br />
I couldn't believe how easy it was. I made my own bias tape and was still done in less than 2 hours, applique and all! I used a rotary cutter for mine because I love the zig zag edge. I cut the letters using my cricut and the "Old West" cartridge. I think it turned out super cute. Now we just need to hang her rope underneath it and it is done!<br />
<br />
I would love to see yours it you make one! <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jmT1DT2Hamk/T0KFmCpQDII/AAAAAAAAAOY/uBUfNPszcBU/s1600/IMG_7343.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jmT1DT2Hamk/T0KFmCpQDII/AAAAAAAAAOY/uBUfNPszcBU/s320/IMG_7343.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So my cousin, Sarina, recently started sewing and asked me to help her recreate a dress I had made her daughter. Low and behold, she did an amazing job. She wanted a few more ideas for easy things to make for the little lady and her family so I am going to try and post a few tutorials here for easy to create projects! These are super simple, I promise you can do it!</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: magenta; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>Amryn's Bag</u></span></div>
<div style="color: magenta; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: magenta; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: black;">Materials Needed:</span></span></span></div>
<div style="color: magenta; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: black;">**2 pieces of fabric cut to the size of the bag you will want. I cut these at 12x16" just cause I thought it was a good little person size. It is going to be cut a couple inches longer than the finished product will be because you will need to miter the corners to create the bottom of the bag.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="color: magenta; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: black;"> **You will need the inside liner of the bag, cut the same. I used an old curtain, get creative! </span></span></span></div>
<div style="color: magenta; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: black;">**AND, the same cut of interfacing. This will make the bag stiffer, easier to work with and it will retain its shape. I like to use 808 interfacing but use whatever you have. I have layered a thinner interfacing when I was out of others before. </span></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0yyGkuC0NCo/T0JqivPvNEI/AAAAAAAAALo/kyZsPHBLym8/s1600/photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0yyGkuC0NCo/T0JqivPvNEI/AAAAAAAAALo/kyZsPHBLym8/s400/photo.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<div style="color: magenta; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: magenta; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: black;">Don't forget straps! I had this piece of woven strap leftover from another project and decided to use it. Since she is little I figure she probably doesn't need straps as long as one of my purses I make for an adult. You decide how long you would like them. For an adult shoulder bag, I cut mine about 36".</span></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jcJ24QM1jaM/T0Jv2MGP5fI/AAAAAAAAAMA/hRtff2VnpJQ/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jcJ24QM1jaM/T0Jv2MGP5fI/AAAAAAAAAMA/hRtff2VnpJQ/s320/photo.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Here is everything cut out and ready to go. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">First off, we need to iron on the interfacing (shiny side is sticky side) to the wrong side of the main purse sections. You can use a normal cotton setting and I like to use steam but it is whatever you feel comfortable with. you will need to press them together for a bit longer than ironing a piece of fabric. Don't leave it in one place to long but be sure they are stuck together!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">With right sides together sew 3 sides of your sections, leaving what will be the top of your bag open.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Then on the outside, with the seams together, lay the bag flat and measure. I made this one 2" on either side of the seam.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mH8_NYZT5ok/T0J5ngBq7FI/AAAAAAAAAM4/dqLuTVQQTm0/s1600/IMG_7334.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mH8_NYZT5ok/T0J5ngBq7FI/AAAAAAAAAM4/dqLuTVQQTm0/s400/IMG_7334.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">create a line, pin if you like and then sew from edge to edge.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZBhpgVkHh7Q/T0J6Ow_BiHI/AAAAAAAAANA/--WRpvbiMbU/s1600/IMG_7336.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZBhpgVkHh7Q/T0J6Ow_BiHI/AAAAAAAAANA/--WRpvbiMbU/s400/IMG_7336.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FS0NvWi05Dw/T0J6WggINWI/AAAAAAAAANI/JRC7s8-oUQg/s1600/IMG_7335.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FS0NvWi05Dw/T0J6WggINWI/AAAAAAAAANI/JRC7s8-oUQg/s400/IMG_7335.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Do this on both corners of the outside and inside liners for the bag. When you turn the outside the right way it should look like this!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ti6bFBNAN5M/T0J7BF2_tqI/AAAAAAAAANQ/pMjovfBrpC4/s1600/IMG_7337.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ti6bFBNAN5M/T0J7BF2_tqI/AAAAAAAAANQ/pMjovfBrpC4/s400/IMG_7337.jpg" width="266" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">If you look at it now and it is too tall, now is a great time to cut some off the top. Remember to trim the outside AND the lining bags. Just line up the fabrics flat and cut away. I highly recommend using a rotary cutter to get the most accurate cut. I cut two inches off this one to make it a little smaller.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Almost done!! I think this is the easiest and less stressful way to finish a bag. Go back to your iron and press down an equal amount all the way around the top of the bag and liner. I usually press down about 1/2".</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UvrBr_OItec/T0KCzrl1GkI/AAAAAAAAAN4/RJgXWF2ge9c/s1600/Feb+20,+2012_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UvrBr_OItec/T0KCzrl1GkI/AAAAAAAAAN4/RJgXWF2ge9c/s400/Feb+20,+2012_3.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Finally, put turn your outside fabric to look like the bag again and then slip your inside lining inside. I like to pin all the way around, matching up the side seams.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2Miix3Wtv9g/T0KD-mfuPzI/AAAAAAAAAOI/85s7L0zNS6s/s1600/IMG_7341.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2Miix3Wtv9g/T0KD-mfuPzI/AAAAAAAAAOI/85s7L0zNS6s/s400/IMG_7341.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DDcl1ooOss4/T0KDQGCRktI/AAAAAAAAAOA/50_4NcFCzCs/s1600/IMG_7340.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DDcl1ooOss4/T0KDQGCRktI/AAAAAAAAAOA/50_4NcFCzCs/s400/IMG_7340.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Next, tuck your straps in between the layers and get them pinned in place. Be sure that they are the same length and directly across from each other! Personally, I like to pin everything and pin lots. Just make sure you take them out as you sew and not sew over them.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rzb8LRiRFok/T0KEcQAtgRI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/4CpUnGFJm7M/s1600/IMG_7342.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rzb8LRiRFok/T0KEcQAtgRI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/4CpUnGFJm7M/s400/IMG_7342.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Sew around the top, taking out pins as you go. Voila! You are done!!! Enjoy your bag. As you get comfortable with creating things and with your machine. Experiment with pockets in your bags, different closures, applique or designs on the front, trim etc. The options are endless!</span></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2aL82MsCxqw/Txh3bsApNMI/AAAAAAAAALg/r89DNaQibBU/s1600/IMG_0271.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2aL82MsCxqw/Txh3bsApNMI/AAAAAAAAALg/r89DNaQibBU/s320/IMG_0271.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So I was packing lunches this morning and was once again frustrated by our lack of containers. The hippy in me will NOT us a plastic bag unless absolutely necessary so I found some scraps and threw together one of these. I have one that purchased awhile back but really, why would I need to pay $6 for something that I can make in 10 minutes? You can too, it is super easy so lets get started. <br />
<br />
What you will need:<br />
<span style="color: purple;">2 pieces of scrap fabric that can be cut 6"x15 1/2" </span> I have a ton of scrap and am always game for a project that uses them! Seriously, you don't need to buy any unless you want a special print. Get creative with stuff around your house. I personally used a piece of unbleached organic cotton for my inside that will touch food. Once again, hippy. Everyone needs organic cotton touching their food coloring filled sour patch kids right?<br />
<div style="color: purple;">
<br /></div>
<span style="color: purple;">1 piece of 2" long velcro</span><br />
<span style="color: purple;"><a href="http://www.sees.com/prod.cfm/pops_and_candies/cinnamon_lollypops" style="color: purple;">1 Cinnamon Lollypop from See's Candies</a>. <span style="color: black;">No seriously, my girl KD got me hooked on these and you can finish this project before it is gone! If you have never had one, get some!</span> </span><br />
<br />
First, cut your fabrics to 6" wide by 15 1/2" long. One will be the outside, one the inside (obviously)<br />
<span style="color: red;">This size will be great for a sandwich, snack crackers and is the perfect size for my famous cookies.</span> <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O8v0AKwoPfE/TxhvwthOrfI/AAAAAAAAAJA/4cV4snjAjw8/s1600/IMG_0273.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O8v0AKwoPfE/TxhvwthOrfI/AAAAAAAAAJA/4cV4snjAjw8/s320/IMG_0273.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Next, round off the tops. I use a bowl or mark one side and then fold it in half to cut. This particular baggie, I rounded to 2 1/2" from the top. Be sure to do them both exactly the same aka on top of each other.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UWxn3khBIdQ/TxhwDjomwgI/AAAAAAAAAJg/FoCUSBLCQYk/s1600/IMG_0275.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UWxn3khBIdQ/TxhwDjomwgI/AAAAAAAAAJg/FoCUSBLCQYk/s320/IMG_0275.jpg" width="313" /></a></div>
here it is folded in half with the rounded marking in white<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I3tghL7hSu4/TxhwIYGecvI/AAAAAAAAAJo/20GvOEzzVgc/s1600/IMG_0276.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I3tghL7hSu4/TxhwIYGecvI/AAAAAAAAAJo/20GvOEzzVgc/s320/IMG_0276.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W6xKF38E9Us/TxhwLdxKB2I/AAAAAAAAAJw/u6fDbxUp-pk/s1600/IMG_0277.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W6xKF38E9Us/TxhwLdxKB2I/AAAAAAAAAJw/u6fDbxUp-pk/s320/IMG_0277.jpg" width="271" /></a></div>
You can add your soft sided velcro to your inside piece now if you prefer a clean look. In other words if you don't want your stitching to show all the way through. Again, not necessary but your prerogative. I feel a 90's Bobby Brown melody coming into my head!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QOZlSzg_Kec/Txhzw0m16rI/AAAAAAAAAKg/YtCpCYyMplQ/s1600/IMG_0284.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QOZlSzg_Kec/Txhzw0m16rI/AAAAAAAAAKg/YtCpCYyMplQ/s320/IMG_0284.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pin and sew velcro long 1 inch from the top. Yeah Yeah Yeah, I was too lazy to switch to black thread and then back to red. Next time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f7F2pgk18rE/TxhzsrB3xCI/AAAAAAAAAKY/PJPgWfalY6U/s1600/IMG_0282.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next, lay them on top of each other, wrong way together and pin. I guess you don't have to pin, I just like for my stuff not to move. I could never understand how my mother never pins anything.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IeIWIJS45nw/TxhwRILah8I/AAAAAAAAAJ4/Y2ZPsJzhEV8/s1600/IMG_0278.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IeIWIJS45nw/TxhwRILah8I/AAAAAAAAAJ4/Y2ZPsJzhEV8/s320/IMG_0278.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_W2DvEVU8ow/Txhwb-v7zzI/AAAAAAAAAKA/AcBTo-JSD90/s1600/IMG_0280.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_W2DvEVU8ow/Txhwb-v7zzI/AAAAAAAAAKA/AcBTo-JSD90/s320/IMG_0280.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
I personally like to criss cross stitch them together now so that they don't move later, but that is completely up to you. I think it adds a little more durability, especially if you don't have a serger.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f7F2pgk18rE/TxhzsrB3xCI/AAAAAAAAAKY/PJPgWfalY6U/s1600/IMG_0282.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f7F2pgk18rE/TxhzsrB3xCI/AAAAAAAAAKY/PJPgWfalY6U/s320/IMG_0282.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
Now add the rough piece of velcro. I am sure they have specific names but rough and soft is going to have to work here :) I attach this piece all the way through both pieces of fabric so that it is stronger and because it won't show! Measure 2 inches from the bottom, pin vertically, of course and sew through both of your layers. Then fold your bottom upwards so that the "pouch" is 5 1/2 inches. PIN :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WF6CosHf9xA/Txh1bJuwAUI/AAAAAAAAALI/W8aNOZMJNFo/s1600/IMG_0287.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WF6CosHf9xA/Txh1bJuwAUI/AAAAAAAAALI/W8aNOZMJNFo/s320/IMG_0287.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
Zig Zag around the entire bag with a wide and tight stitch and voila! When you fold the bag, the top should fold over on itself so that it makes it harder for things to escape. Your lollypop isn't even gone yet and you are ready to save plastic and make your kids' lunches earth friendly!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GoQNnYj6EZI/Txh1kifxHLI/AAAAAAAAALQ/H2C6UT33c2Q/s1600/IMG_0288.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GoQNnYj6EZI/Txh1kifxHLI/AAAAAAAAALQ/H2C6UT33c2Q/s320/IMG_0288.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Get creative and decorate them and add embellishments. This one has a yellow "E" on the back of it for my daughter! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hand wash them and then hang them to dry on your DUO or from a clothesrack!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zvAY-0imKlg/Txh3Y-y9PpI/AAAAAAAAALY/qfGJhxI3_cY/s1600/IMG_0289.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zvAY-0imKlg/Txh3Y-y9PpI/AAAAAAAAALY/qfGJhxI3_cY/s320/IMG_0289.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
Bet you can't tell which ones I made and which one I bought! Have fun!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I know the fine ladies who developed this and was thrilled to receive the newest version for Christmas. This <a href="http://thenewclotheslinecompany.com/">LOFTi from The New Clothesline Company</a> is 27 square feet of drying space that is not in my kitchen, hanging from door jams or draped over my stair rail!!!! YIPPEEE! When you go through as much athletic gear as I do and hang dry uniforms every week, this is a God send. </span></div><div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">They come in white and a beautiful chartreuse green and there are cool end attachment buddies with hooks on them for your unmentionables, socks, etc. That is next for me!</span></div><div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ziZmw--GsH4/TwNV2-QdcTI/AAAAAAAAAIo/yMQHj43Ltrs/s1600/photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ziZmw--GsH4/TwNV2-QdcTI/AAAAAAAAAIo/yMQHj43Ltrs/s320/photo.jpg" width="239" /></a>This load was 7 pairs of running shorts, 6 sports bras, a dress (added after the photo) two sweaters, 1 swim suit, a pair of cycling bibs and a jersey and 3 place mats!!!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I highly recommend getting one if you hang dry anything at all. Do you have any idea how much money and many pieces of clothing you could save by hanging to dry? </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><a name='more'></a>Heidihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06483190015005834630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641880640065586505.post-6953626730873809982011-10-29T19:40:00.005-06:002011-10-29T19:48:26.909-06:00Menu for the week of Halloween!<style>

She makes incredible goodies which can be found at <a href="http://www.ikissedatoad.com/">i kissed a toad!</a> She uses her scraps to make "free" but wonderful fabrics so I did the same. I cut them into 2"x3" rectangles, seamed them together, slammed a zigzag stitch line along the seams (it took a LONG time) and then seamed them together again but off centered of course because, well, I am not a straight line kind of girl.t<br />

In the midst of making these bags and another for my aunt I ended up with some extra bright colored patchwork straps. I am hoping those are going to become a camera strap for my friend Amy of <a href="http://www.amyshertzerphotography.com/">Amy Shertzer Photography</a>. She and I are working on putting together a combined blog giveaway. Not sure I have enough people reading my blog considering how sparse they are but she is an amazing photographer and definitely needs an amazing camera strap! For right now I have an Easter dress to make for a very eager 8 year old!Heidihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06483190015005834630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641880640065586505.post-58064739465407216042011-03-31T09:44:00.002-06:002011-03-31T10:01:13.440-06:00The Scrap Fabric Challenge Continues!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I finished the cutie duffels from <a href="http://www.saltwater-kids.com/2008/10/retro-duffel-bag-tutorial.html">Saltwater Kids </a>and even put initials on them.<br />
<br />
I appliqued them with the help of my cricut so I took pictures to show you how!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Bdpdh_rcxhk/TZSf9nJk7zI/AAAAAAAAAHs/HuhLqZP518U/s1600/DSC01136.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Bdpdh_rcxhk/TZSf9nJk7zI/AAAAAAAAAHs/HuhLqZP518U/s320/DSC01136.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I use heat bond and personally, I think that is the only thing that works.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sIbGDTd03Hg/TZSgComUplI/AAAAAAAAAHw/xjnzJIKjnrs/s1600/DSC01137.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sIbGDTd03Hg/TZSgComUplI/AAAAAAAAAHw/xjnzJIKjnrs/s320/DSC01137.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Put your speed on slow and the pressure on max. Works like a charm.<br />

So I was on the <a href="http://www.dana-made-it.com/">Made</a> blog, which is one of my favorites, and right now she is doing the most amazing features on boys. The latest post took me to <a href="http://www.saltwater-kids.com/">Saltwater Kids</a> and I was oh-so inspired to create that great <a href="http://www.saltwater-kids.com/2008/10/retro-duffel-bag-tutorial.html">retro duffel</a> up there int he picture for my kids. Our annual motor home trip is quickly approaching and well, you can never have too many bags! However, I swore to use my scraps this month so I busted out my huge box of fabric that I am wishing was more empty, so I can fill it with different fabric of course, and low and behold, the picture below! I mean really, who has a random stash of heavy weight fabric? Apparently I do and I am going to bust a couple of these out this weekend. Naturally, I will be putting some great appliques on them to make them more personal and creative but I am so excited! Thanks to Emily for her rockin ideas.<br />
<br />

So it isn't too exciting so far but I thought I would show you these cutie burp rags I threw together with some scrap flannel last night. My guru of all things baby, Kezlee, gave me some rough measurements of what she uses and I did my best to salvage as close to that as possible (10x21"). They and the great swaddling square are headed to Alaska for my super star childhood friend, Kyle, and his new family!<br />
Just in case you want to see more of their talents, Kezlee makes amazing bags at <a href="http://www.ikissedatoad.etsy.com/">i kissed a toad</a> and my embroidery superstar, Christie is at <a href="http://www.bveprinting.com/">Bridger View Embroidery</a>.<br />

I have made tons of fun stuff this winter but over the next month I am going to post all of my creations made from scraps! So, in between being mom, training for Nationals, and whatever else life hands me I will be taking this journey, wanna take it with me?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ykKbBCsUTac/TWGh7qZBGiI/AAAAAAAAAHE/bvYj5z4tDeA/s1600/DSC01118.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="200" width="150" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ykKbBCsUTac/TWGh7qZBGiI/AAAAAAAAAHE/bvYj5z4tDeA/s200/DSC01118.JPG" /></a></div><br />

Check out her blog when you get a chance, she is amazing. www.aliciafryphotography.blogspot.com<br />I am headed to the track for a workout here in a minute but I have a cutie little dress to show you and another set that are matching sister dresses headed up to Alaska. I also want to post some of my favorite recipes for saving a little dough here and there. They take a little time but are fun and totally rewarding.<br /> Thanks for being patient with me. I got a few orders this week I needed to fill so yesterdays blog dress didn't happen, an order did. Today I am going to work on a few more of those great skirts with the pockets. They are very similar to the "market skirt" on the MADE blog but I mostly just borrowed her pocket idea and the great white contrast and put them on my twirl skirts. I love fellow bloggers.<br /><br />We leave tomorrow for Minnesota. It will be my daughters first mini-duathlon and my first elite race. Spending a week in a walking cast may or may not have helped. I will definitely be rested but I am SO ready to run again. Any of you out there who are self-medicated like myself with adrenaline and endorphins can understand where I am coming from. So anyway, my next few days will be full of running, riding, great friends, the American Girl Store in the "mall" and the shark exhibit too. Talk to you again soon. Think fast thoughts for me. God Bless...HJFHeidihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06483190015005834630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641880640065586505.post-10782095575915719492010-05-24T22:35:00.002-06:002010-05-24T22:39:12.595-06:00Day 12...Sadies Skirt<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_tUWj_RsDI/AAAAAAAAAEA/43nK7FdC29M/s1600/IMG_4261.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 171px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_tUWj_RsDI/AAAAAAAAAEA/43nK7FdC29M/s200/IMG_4261.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5475062518593466418" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_tUWaTVKvI/AAAAAAAAAD4/lu-5Fte-R-8/s1600/IMG_4260.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_tUWaTVKvI/AAAAAAAAAD4/lu-5Fte-R-8/s200/IMG_4260.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5475062515993225970" /></a><br />So I got the tutorial for these great pockets on another blog called Made and thought they were just rockin! Added them to the idea of incorporating white and a twirl skirt and I just love it. This one is going to little Sadie for her 3rd birthday, hope it fits, it is so teeny tiny.Heidihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06483190015005834630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641880640065586505.post-17539622639471171482010-05-24T07:00:00.003-06:002010-05-24T07:03:18.894-06:00Day 11 "That machine is so loud!"NO blog yesterday, my hottie husband said that my machine is too loud (and my zig zag isn't working) and he really just wanted to watch a movie. Working on a new idea from a fellow blogger who is just great called dana-made-it today!Heidihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06483190015005834630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641880640065586505.post-86387537635369183842010-05-22T21:25:00.004-06:002010-05-22T22:16:11.718-06:00Day 10<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_igQI7ahAI/AAAAAAAAADw/dcsbCSV7F80/s1600/IMG_4259.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 130px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_igQI7ahAI/AAAAAAAAADw/dcsbCSV7F80/s200/IMG_4259.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474301546203874306" /></a><br /><br />Ok, here is dress # 10. It is made out of a Riley Blake fabric called summersong. I love the colors and am really adamant about lines lining up in the back with these stripes. It bothers me when they don't. So, these fabrics (and the plain jane flowers) challenge my brain a bit and I love that! I sold the plain jane one today so I am down one dress for my 30 challenge AND, my race in MN is coming up soon, better get a move on huh? <br /><br />It is pouring down rain/snow here so tomorrow will be a great day to do projects. I have been scouring the blog "Made" and found a great market skirt with pockets that I want to try. Tomorrow it is!Heidihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06483190015005834630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641880640065586505.post-40923564814649105922010-05-21T20:39:00.002-06:002010-05-21T21:07:37.553-06:00Day 9 one behind<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_dKYD8UROI/AAAAAAAAADo/vSuFjRzff5o/s1600/IMG_1235.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 153px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_dKYD8UROI/AAAAAAAAADo/vSuFjRzff5o/s200/IMG_1235.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473925649327736034" /></a><br />This is the dress that I ran out of elastic on, but finished today. My sister in law came over tonight to take pictures that I cannot wait to post. She is way more talented than she knows and has an incredible eye for photos. My daughter was the modeling superstar that she always is and we took advantage of the beautiful evening light, Montana mountains, great fence lines and sweet farm equipment both new and old. In case she has them up before me, check out www.aliciafryphotography.blogspot.com<br /><br />I got a few orders today so I am going to spend my "office hours" tonight cutting out fabric and preparing for tomorrow. I am officially in a walking cast now which is making for quite a bit of unwanted extra time but hey, it is all in Gods plan for me and I am thankful that I lead the life that I do.<br /><br />Until tomorrow, sweet dreams and God Bless.Heidihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06483190015005834630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641880640065586505.post-64628385520719775032010-05-21T12:41:00.008-06:002010-05-21T13:08:04.622-06:00Day 8 dress to skirt<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bUofKGDsI/AAAAAAAAACQ/AY4bq1_Fg9s/s1600/IMG_1222.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bUofKGDsI/AAAAAAAAACQ/AY4bq1_Fg9s/s200/IMG_1222.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473796189139111618" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Ok, so I ran out of elastic and it got way too late last night to post, but I did do this little project yesterday I thought I would share.<br /><br />My daughter has this dress that is her "favorite" along with all the rest of them. Well she stained it horribly at school but it had a great lining and she supposedly loved it so, I turned it into a skirt. Super easy with a seam ripper and some elastic...hence the fact I was out of elastic for a dress that will sell. Plus, I now have an extra hook and eye closure, 3 cute buttons and a zipper out of the project.<br /><br />So, this dress had a zipper. I took it out, then lined up the fabrics and continued the seam that had ended at the zipper. Tada, no zipper.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bYSpqloqI/AAAAAAAAACw/uUHR5jX0pUY/s1600/IMG_1227.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bYSpqloqI/AAAAAAAAACw/uUHR5jX0pUY/s200/IMG_1227.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473800212049142434" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bY-wqQQ8I/AAAAAAAAADI/QwvFG2yCUL0/s1600/IMG_1226.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bY-wqQQ8I/AAAAAAAAADI/QwvFG2yCUL0/s200/IMG_1226.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473800969841034178" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Just remember to leave the taking in that held to lining onto the dress otherwise you might want to safety pin or pin them together so that they stay even<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bZ1yKbVOI/AAAAAAAAADg/BvnOtbnzffE/s1600/IMG_1229.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bZ1yKbVOI/AAAAAAAAADg/BvnOtbnzffE/s200/IMG_1229.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473801915137217762" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Then I cut of the dress as high as I could which in this case was right below the stain.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bZL7rvz8I/AAAAAAAAADQ/DJSb_sJ3nvg/s1600/IMG_1231.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bZL7rvz8I/AAAAAAAAADQ/DJSb_sJ3nvg/s200/IMG_1231.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473801196138385346" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Then I turned down a quarter of an inch and then another 1 inch to allow for a casing. I sewed as close to the edge as I could but left about an inch in order to get the elastic threaded through the casing. I threaded 19" of 1/2" elastic through the new waist, sewed the ends to make a full circle with the elastic and then sewed back on the outside to finish the casing.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bZMc8lWeI/AAAAAAAAADY/2hxE9RQXq7I/s1600/IMG_1233.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bZMc8lWeI/AAAAAAAAADY/2hxE9RQXq7I/s200/IMG_1233.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473801205067373026" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The bottom seam was already done so now she had a skirt with a lining in less than an hour!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bYD-fhjmI/AAAAAAAAACo/UHxzFY3-lLI/s1600/IMG_1234.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_E73HhY3ro9A/S_bYD-fhjmI/AAAAAAAAACo/UHxzFY3-lLI/s200/IMG_1234.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473799959941844578" border="0" /></a>Heidihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06483190015005834630noreply@blogger.com0
